couples accompanied by an Assyrian folklore dance band
head toward a church-like stage built for the purpose of
marriage ceremonies on Monday, April 1, 2002, in Al
Haskakah, Syria, 345 miles northeast of Damascus. The mass
wedding was the major activity to mark celebrations of the
